How do I get started?
Download Contrl from the App Store or Google Play. Create an account, set your first savings goal, and make your daily pledge to avoid impulse spending. Your journey to financial freedom begins with day one!
Is Contrl free to use?
Yes! Contrl is free to download and use. All core features including streak tracking, savings goals, Impulse Shield, and basic Cowl AI chat are available at no cost.

How does streak tracking work?
Your streak tracks consecutive days without impulse spending. Each day you successfully resist unnecessary purchases, your streak grows. Breaking your streak resets the counter, but you can start fresh immediately. Consistency is key!
What is the Impulse Shield?
Impulse Shield is your emergency intervention tool when temptation strikes. It offers guided breathing exercises, spending risk assessments, and helps you pause before making an impulse purchase. Think of it as your financial safety net.
How does the orb progression system work?
Your orb evolves through 11 tiers based on your streak length, from Seed (1 day) to Master (180 days). Each tier represents your growing mastery over impulse spending. Watch your orb transform as you progress!
What is Cowl and how can it help me?
Cowl is your AI financial companion powered by GPT-4o. Cowl provides personalized spending insights, motivational support, and practical strategies to help you resist impulse buying. Chat with Cowl anytime you need guidance or encouragement.
How do XP and levels work?
You earn XP (experience points) by maintaining streaks, completing daily pledges, and achieving savings goals. As you accumulate XP, you progress through 6 levels: Novice, Apprentice, Skilled, Expert, Elite, and Legend. Each level unlocks new achievements and recognition.
Account & Privacy
What data does Contrl collect?
Contrl collects minimal data needed for app functionality: your email, streak data, savings goals, and chat history with Cowl. We never access your bank accounts, credit cards, or transaction history. For complete details, see our Privacy Policy.
Is my data secure?
Yes. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We use industry-standard security practices and never share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Can I delete my account and data?
Yes. You can request account deletion at any time through the app settings or by contacting support. All your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.
How do I reset my password?
Tap "Forgot Password" on the login screen. You'll receive an email with instructions to reset your password. If you don't receive the email within a few minutes, check your spam folder.
Troubleshooting
The app isn't tracking my streak correctly
Make sure you've made your daily pledge before midnight in your local timezone. Streaks reset at midnight each day. If you're still experiencing issues, try logging out and back in, or contact support.
Cowl isn't responding to my messages
Check your internet connection. Cowl requires an active internet connection to respond. If you're connected and still experiencing issues, try restarting the app. If the problem persists, contact support.
I accidentally broke my streak
We understand setbacks happen! The important thing is to start again. Your progress isn't truly lost—you've learned something valuable. Use the experience to strengthen your resolve and begin a new streak.
The app is crashing or freezing
Try these steps: 1) Force close and restart the app, 2) Check for app updates in your app store, 3) Restart your device, 4) Reinstall the app. If issues continue, contact support with your device model and OS version.
